Camp McKean will be closed for the remainder of 2013.

Due to the FY13 "continuing resolution authority (CRA)", MWR is required to make operational modifications in order to meet reduced budgetary guidelines. Operational modifications include changes in hours of operations and program offerings, which will result in the closure of Camp McKean throughout the remainder of FY13. Please note modifications to operations are effective Monday, March 18, 2013.

Camp McKean is located five miles west of Naval Base Kitsap Bremerton along the Kitsap Lake shoreline. The park is primarily for summer day use in support of Navy commands and authorized Fleet & Family Readiness patrons.

The site includes a seasonal swimming beach, large pavilion, gazebo, upper picnic field with two shelters, restrooms, fire rings, BBQ grills, children’s playground, fishing pier, boat dock, sand volleyball court, and horseshoe pits. Boats carried from parking lot to the beach are allowed to launch, all other boats can use the public boat launch found on the south end of the lake.

Unless an area is reserved all park areas (except the pavilion) are available on a first come, first served basis. Facility reservations are made at Pacific Edge Outfitters (360) 535-5919, deposit and reservation fees can be made with cash, debit or credit card.

Swimming

Swimming is only permitted in the designated area when lifeguards are on duty.

The swimming area is closed at the discretion of management, lifeguards, or Kitsap County Health Department. Closures are directly related to lifeguard availability, inclement weather, water quality, and special events.

Camp McKean now offers boat rentals!

All boat rentals are just $15 per hour and $9 for each additional hour, no matter which type of boat you choose. All rentals include PFDs and paddles.

Parties of 150 - 225 are required to reserve both the Pavillion and the Upper Picinic Field. Parties larger than 225 are required to reserve all three areas.

Group usage fees are waived for official command functions including ship/unit picnics. Group picnics may also be scheduled for weekends in May and September with advanced registration (subject to payment of early and late season fees). Other restrictions may apply.

Reservations can be made through Pacific Edge Outfitters located on Naval Base Kitsap Bangor. Call (360) 535-5919 for availability and to book your event.

Reservation will be taken as follows for these groups:

1st week in March - All Sea Commands
2nd week in March - All Shore Commands
3rd week in March - All Other Groups (including shops, contractors, DoD civilians, retirees, etc.)

A completed reservation form and a command function fee waiver letter on official command letterhead or full payment for group area fees must be submitted to hold your reservation.

Directions

From Hwy 3 take the Kitsap Way exit. Go west on Kitsap Way for about 1 ½ miles. Make a slight left onto North Lake Way NW. Travel about ½ mile, then turn left onto West Kitsap Lake Rd NW. Go about another ½ mile and Camp McKean will be on the left.

Parking is limited, please carpool when you can.
