Canteen Operator

Location: Naval Base Kitsap Bremerton - Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & IMF

Pay Grade: NF-2091-02

Major Duties and Responsibilities: This position is located at Employee Food Services, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & IMF, Bremerton, WA. The Canteen Operator is responsible for the operation of a food service facility or a Mobile Food and retail sales unit servicing various government work sites located within the commuting area. Responsible for opening and securing facility. Responsible for requisition, accountability and stocking of inventory. Assures food items are neatly arranged and adequate stock levels are on hand to meet anticipated daily demands. Checks and verifies incoming food inventory for quality, quantity, food expiration dates and proper pricing. Warms food items as required. Inventories all food items and makes proper documentation to be forwarded to appropriate department. Operates a cash register according to standard cash control procedures; is responsible for own cash fund, rings in sales of items, makes correct change, completes daily activity reports. Performs daily routine cleaning for a sanitary operation. May be responsible for operation of a Mobile unit following a predetermined route, completing a prescribed destination schedule in a timely manner. May assist in production department. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:  Six months experience as a Cashier in a cafeteria, retail or similar establishment.  Knowledge of cash and inventory accountability and the operation of a cash register are required. A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

WORKING CONDITION: Light to moderate physical effort is required. Frequently lifts and moves objects. Dollies and loading carts are available when needed. Required to stoop, twist and walk constantly. Long periods of time on your feet.

Conditions of Employment: Successful completion of National Agency (NACI) background check with written inquiries required. Must walk or stand for prolonged periods of time. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Work is normally performed inside with adequate light, heat and fresh air.
