Motor Vehicle Operator

Location: NAS Whidbey Island's Convergence Zone

This position provides drivers for the Community Programs MWR passenger bus and other vehicles that may be used in support of the Trip and Tours program. Employee privileges include access to base facilities such as gyms, recreation centers, restaurants, and discount tickets to sporting and entertainment events.

Summary of Duties: The purpose of this position is to provide driving services for a passenger bus and other vehicles that may be used to support Trip and Tour services in support of the Recreation program. Incumbent operates oversized motor coaches on long-distance trips, which may involve interstate and a combination of day and night driving. (Most trips will be nights and weekends). Incumbent will operate and perform operator maintenance on straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 32,000 lbs. May operate one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks and van trucks. Responsible for making operational inspections of vehicles for loose parts, damaged or worn tires, battery condition, and similar items. Responsible for inventory of items such as tools, first aid kits, emergency equipment, etc. Incumbent will also ensure the comfort and well-being of passengers to the greatest extent possible with equipment available. Incumbent observes applicable safety, sanitation rules, and regulations. Incumbent must keep trip records, logs, comply with safety and training requirement, and adhere to all state, local and installation traffic laws and ordinances. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must be skilled in operating oversized vehicles carrying large groups of people for long periods of day and night driving in all conditions and circumstances. Skilled in “chaining up” vehicles, making judgments loading cargo, driving in inclement weather conditions. Skill and tact required to ensure customer satisfaction and resolve customer disputes.

Conditions of Employment: These positions are subject to background check and pre-employment drug screening. Incumbent must possess a valid state ‘CDL Class ‘B’ driver’s license with passenger endorsement, government driver’s licenses, first aid, and CPR certifications within the first 90 days of hire.
