CYP Teen Coordinator

Location: Naval Station Everett - Child & youth Program, Bldg. 1980

Pay Grade: NF-1702-03

Brief Description of Duties: Incumbent duties are to plan, organize, and provide a supervised youth sports and fitness, social, recreational and educational program for youth ages 6-18 that meets the interests and needs of all children and youth. Youth and teen activities include, but are not limited to special events, open recreation, classes, trips, dances, educational and other programs that meet the developmental and leisure needs of youth and teens. The incumbent works under the supervision of the CYP Director. Responsibilities of the Youth/Teen Coordinator can be grouped into categories including programming, indoor/outdoor environment, interactions and relationships, supervision of children and youth, outreach, and compliance. Assists with the development and supervision of a developmentally appropriate youth and teen program that promotes the social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth of children and youth in the age categories served. Develops daily activity plans for the youth and teens (ages 6-18) to include structured activities such as sports and fitness, art, social games, music, drama, technology, and special projects that are inclusive of dependent youth of Department of Defense (DOD) military personnel living on and off the installation. This position will also provide sports and fitness support to the Child Development Center and implement all required CNIC Youth Sports and Fitness components. Ensures facility or outdoor space for scheduled activities is prepared, available and safety requirements are met prior to use. Uses appropriate child and youth guidance techniques that encourages positive social interactions, promotes conflict resolutions, and develops self-control, self-motivation and self-esteem. Supervises youth/teen activities and enforces rules and regulations concerning dress, conduct, and equipment and game rules. Publicizes upcoming youth/teen, fitness and sports events and activities and ensures that opportunities offered in the community are communicated and shared with families. May assume responsibilities and perform duties under supervision of CYP Director. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements: Must provide proof of High School Diploma or equivalent, and any additional education, certification, and or training as required prior to placement.

  • Incumbents must have one of the following: A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Military School-Age (MSA) credential or equivalent AND 3 years of experience where the incumbent displays knowledge of a competency in developmentally appropriate programming; OR
  • A 2-year degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development or related field of study, which can include Youth Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Youth Development, Psychology, Social Work, Home Economics with an emphasis in Human Development or other degrees as appropriate AND 2 years of full-time experience working with children or youth; OR
  • A 4 year degree in any of the above fields of study AND a minimum of 1 year of experience working with children or youth. Note: A minimum 2-year degree is preferred.

Knowledge of developmentally appropriate programs designed to meet the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs of children and youth from 6 to 18 years of age. Knowledge of child and youth development principles, practices and techniques. Experience working with military lifestyles is preferred. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English. Ability to supervise, and interact with youth and teens. Ability to safeguard and account for monies and equipment.

Conditions of Employment: Successful completion of drug test and National Agency Background (NACI) check with written inquiries. The incumbent is required to do considerable walking, standing, bending, stooping, standings, and lifting to 40 pounds.
