Cashier

Location: Naval Base Kitsap - Central Cash Cage

Pay Grade: NF-0530-02

This position provides various cashiering duties and responsibilities in safeguarding cash and checks to support program activities. Employee privileges include access to base facilities such as gyms, recreation centers, restaurants, and discount tickets to sporting and entertainment events, access to Navy Exchange. Sign on bonus of $500 after 90 days of continuous employment.

Summary of Duties: Is responsible for central cashier operations and oversite. Responsibiities include but are not limited to Tidel machine management, tracking movement of funds, gift certificates, employee on-the-spot awards, daily activity reports, petty cash and change funds auditing documents, and investigating discrepancies. Receives and verifies counts, assigns, distributes, and safeguards funds. Serves as an authorized point of contact for local banking institutions. Provides reimbursement support to all base ombudsmen and serves as back up support for command/departments unit allocation payments. Serves as MWR key custodian. Maintains administrative responsibilities for MWR vehicles and acts as mail orderly. Administers employee KRONOS system timecards. Assists with annual inventory and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age and possess high school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of the generally accepted accounting procedures, rules and regulations in safeguarding cash and other assets in order to conduct and examine the validity of the cash transactions. Ability to operate office machines such as calculator, cash register and computer. Must have minimum of 6 months experience as a cashier. Must be able to lift heavy suitcase in and out of a vehicle. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must successfully pass a formal background check and maintain eligibility for a position of trust.

Conditions of Employment: It is primarily sedentary and requires long periods of sitting when verifying cash and counting funds. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds unassisted, bending and kneeling to transport funds and fill Tidel machines. Must have a valid drivers license and one year of previous experience as a cashier. Must be able to obtain a security clearance.
