Supervisory Recreation Specialist
Location: Naval Air Station Whidbey Island - Convergence Zone
Pay Grade: NF-0188-03
This position provides quality customer service to all eligible patrons. Employee privileges include access to base facilities such as gyms, recreation centers, restaurants, and discount tickets to sporting and entertainment events, and shopping at the Navy Exchange.
Brief Description of Duties: Incumbent is responsible for the management, programming, and operations of the Community Recreation Center including but not limited to Community Recreation, Parks and Picnic Areas, Outdoor Rentals/Activities, Resource Center, Tickets and Tours, Bowling, Paintball, and Special Events. Incumbent will develop, maintain, and monitor execution of the annual NAF and APF operating budget, maintains records of purchases and inventory, and other accountable items. Assists in planning, coordinating, execution, and evaluation of comprehensive monthly calendar of reoccurring and non-reoccurring recreational activities, classes, events, trips, and programs. Incumbent captures metrics and evaluates programs. Evaluates effectiveness of program delivery based on user metrics, surveys, interactions, with patrons, and ICE comments. Incumbent responsibilities to include scheduling, time-keeping sign-off, and leave approval. Provides necessary on the job training for staff as required and provides input to the manager on employee performance. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements: Incumbent must possess practical knowledge of goals, philosophy, principles, techniques, and procedures used in managing, organizing, planning, administering facilities and conducting recreational activities. Must have a four-year undergraduate degree in Recreation, business administration, or a related field OR progressively responsible experience in recreation center and/or recreation programming may substitute for college education on a year for year basis. Must be able to utilize basic knowledge of software such as Microsoft Office products, strong communication skills. Must have general knowledge and skill in developing and executing operating budgets and cost analysis. Completed work is based on results and is reviewed for appropriateness and conformity to policy and requirements. The work is principally sedentary, with walking, bending, and stooping when working around facilities and outdoor areas, lifting, carrying, moving, and handling recreational supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Conditions of Employment: Must satisfactorily complete a suitability background check (NACI) and obtain a security clearance when necessary for access to areas of responsibility. Candidate must be willing to work flexible hours consistent with operational and program needs, this can include nights, weekends and holidays. A valid state driver’s license is required as this position requires the employee to drive motor vehicles. A First Aid and CPR certification is required within 90 days of employment.
