CYP Food Service Worker
Location: Naval Base Kitsap - Bangor Child Development Center
Pay Grade: NA-7408-04

Brief Description of Duties: The CYP Food Service Worker performs various tasks or a sequence of tasks in food service and preparation including peeling potatoes, cutting, sorting, and washing vegetables and fruits; assembling sandwiches and measuring and weighing ingredients. Stocks food service carts, wraps, arranges, and/or packages items for serving to children and youth. Transports food to and from kitchen to classrooms. Pre-rinses and washes pots, pans, dishes, glasses and silverware. Operates dishwasher. Maintains clean orderly work area including food prep area, cupboards, ceilings, exhaust hoods, floors and walls and sanitizes using industrial strength cleaning products. Labels and dates all refrigerated food items in accordance with health standards. Moves heavy garbage cans when collecting and transferring trash from the work area.
Qualification Requirements: Understanding of food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures. Basic understanding of recipe construction. Knowledge of techniques for measuring ingredients. Knowledge of basic arithmetic. Working knowledge of sanitation standards and procedures. Ability to obtain a food handler’s card. Must be 18 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent. Ability to speak, read, and understand written material in English such as time and duty schedules, menus, recipes and work instructions. Ability to favorably pass a preemployment physical, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease. Ability to satisfactorily complete all background checks to include National Agency check.
Conditions of Employment: Work schedule may be a rotating schedule, which covers early mornings, late evenings and split shifts. These positions are subject to background check and pre-employment medical screenings in accordance with federal regulations. Incumbent may be assigned to work at various Child & Youth Centers as needed within Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. The work requires considerable walking, standing, bending, stooping and lifting up to 40 pounds. Must obtain and maintain valid food handlers card. Ability to favorably pass pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease. To ensure compliance with an applicable preliminary nationwide injunction, which may be supplemented, modified, or vacated, depending on the course of ongoing litigation, the Federal Government will take no action to implement or enforce the COVID-19 vaccination requirement pursuant to Executive Order 14043 on Requiring Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination for Federal Employees. Therefore, to the extent a Federal job announcement includes the requirement that applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 pursuant to Executive Order 14043, that requirement does not currently apply. Federal agencies may request information regarding the vaccination status of selected applicants for the purposes of implementing other workplace safety protocols, such as protocols related to masking, physical distancing, testing, travel, and quarantine.
